William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Henry Livingtone was born in 1886 at Haydon Bridge the eldest son of Nicholas and Mary Elizabeth Phillipson. In 1891 the family were living at Consett. Nicholas was a coal miner hewer. Two further children Ada 1887 and Mary J. 1890 were recorded.

In 1901 the family were living at Leadgate. Henry aged 15 was working as a coal miner hewer. Mary Elizabeth and Thomas William 1897 were visiting at Elswick.

Nicholas died in 1902 and in 1906 Mary Elizabeth married Robert Thomas Pull.

In 1911 living at 7 Clifford Terrace, Chester-le-Street were Robert and Mary Elizabeth, Henry, Thomas William, Mary Jane her husband Dennis Rouse and their daughter Eva. Thomas William 14 was a coal miner above ground.

Henry enlisted at Chester-le-Street and joined the Northumberland Fusiliers. He embarked for France 25th August 1915.

Henry was wounded and was later awarded the Military Medal.

Henry died at the 4th Scottish Hospital at Glasgow 14th February 1917.

The Welcome Home Committee at Chester-le-Street had been going to give him a gift to mark his Military Medal instead they provided kerb stones for his grave in Ropery Lane. They read:-

Erected by the People of Chester le St. In loving memory of Pte H.L. Phillipson M.M. 10th NF died of wounds received in France February 14th 1917 aged 32 years

Awards: Military Medal; 1915 Star; British War Medal; Victory Medal

Mary Elizabeth Pull aged 55 years died in 1921, Robert Thomas Pull aged 84 years died in 1946. They are buried with Henry at Ropery Lane.

Henry Livingstone Phillipson is remembered at Chester-le-Street on C105.01, C105.12, C105.15 in each case his surname is spelled 'Philipson'. On C105.40 his name is correct.
