The total number of decorations awarded to the officers and men
who went with the brigade to France in 1915 was 60. This figure
equals 16.4% or approximately one in six.

The total number awarded to the brigade during the whole war
appears to be 81, or counting the "M.M. and Bar" as two awards, 82.
The word "appears" is used because, owing to the 4th Northumbrian
Brigade being broken up in France and the depot in England being
closed, a complete record of all the men who served therein is difficult
to obtain.

The percentage of awards gained by the British Army as a whole
in World War I was 4, or one in twenty-five.

The figures quoted above speak for themselves, and the record
of the 4th Northumbrian Brigade is one of which any unit could be
more than proud. It was, indeed, an outstanding achievement
which, worthy of the highest praise, placed the Territorial Force of
40 years ago in a position of notable pre-eminence.
