Butters, T., Pte., M.M., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France is the name of 1576 Private Thomas Butters, M.M., serving with the 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 15/09/1916.

Julie Famelton has provided the following:

He was the brother of John Butters of White House. Thomas Butters went out to France with his battalion 20th April 1915 and died on 15th September. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the lost of the Somme.

I have not found out how he received the Military Medal.

Morpeth Herald 01/12/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Mr J. Butters, White House, Ewesley, near Rothbury, has received official news that his youngest brother, Private Thomas Butters, N.F., was killed in action on Sept. 15th. Private Butters went out with his battalion on April 20th, 1915, and was in possession of the Military Medal.

Thomas Butters is remembered in Fontburn on F48.02 in Netherwitton on N6.03, in Kirkwhelpington on K16.06 and possibly in Hexham on H51.30
