On the Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 2505B Able Seaman John Hogan, serving with the Royal Navy Reserve, who died 22/09/1914.

He was employed as a Mooringman at the N.E.R. at West Hartlepool. But originally was employed as a Dock Gateman at Tyne Dock, before being transferred in July 1910. He started employment with the NER in 1907.

He was married with 4 children and resided at 25 Blake Street, West Hartlepool.

John Hogan, was killed in the torpedoing of HMS Aboukir 22nd September 1914. He had completed 12 years service. He was aged 32 when he died.

He is remembered on the York Railway Memorial, at Hartlepool on H115.16, H115.26, in H115.30 page 19, also at West Hartlepool on W111.04 W111.54 in W111.86 page 16, and our Ship Crew List
