Brown, A.G., Lieut., 1918
In Giavera British Cemetery, Arcade is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant Alan George Brown, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/10/1918.

The youngest son of Kathrine Jane and the late George Brown of 8 Swinburne Road, Darlington, County Durham he was born at Redcar, North Yorkshire on the 22nd April 1894. His military records indicate that he was educated at Durham School. A Clerk, he enlisted at Durham on the 15th September 1914 as a Private into No 1 Company, 21st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers and was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 25th June 1915. On the 4th August 1916 records state that he was a Lieutenant serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, 3rd Battalion when went to France on the 30th August 1916 and was attached to the Machine Gun Corps 144th Company on the 19th September 1916 and was immediately wounded. He rejoined the Machine Gun Corp on the 21st February 1917. He went to Italy on or about 24th September 1918. On the 14th October 1918 he was injured but was severely reprimanded for absence and a Court of Enquiry was held on the 24th October 1918. He was Mentioned in the Despatches of Lord Cavan on the 26th October 1918 and was killed in action crossing the River Piave on the 27th October 1918 aged 24. He is buried in Giavera British Cemetery, Arcade, Italy, Grave Reference 1.H.1.

He is remembered in Darlington on D40.029, D40.034 and D40.067
