Spencer, W., Pte., 1916
At Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-la-Boiselle, Albert is the Commonwealth War Grave of 19986 Private Walter Spencer serving with the 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/07/1916.

Lorna Wilkinson has submitted the following:-

Walter was born in 1892. In 1901 he is living with his grandparents Redfearn and Eleanor Spencer at Cockerton. In 1911 Walter is living at West Bridge, Cockerton with his aunt Kate (nee Spencer) and her husband John William Baldwin, (newsagents clerk) and four cousins. Walter was a Cartman for a Florist.

Walter enlisted at Ashford Derby and joined the Northumberland Fusiliers. He went to France on the 25th August 1915. He was killed in action at Becourt Wood (Albert) on the 7th July 1916.

Walter Spencer is remembered at Cockerton, C119.02, at Darlington on D40.34, D40.29 and D40.67
