In Choloy War Cemetery, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1565370 Sergeant William Raine, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 19/10/1944.

Sgt. Raine was the Navigator aboard Avro Lancaster NG176 AP-H of 186 Squadron, which was lost on a mission to Stuttgart. The Lancaster is thought to have been attacked south west of Stuttgart by a Luftwaffe night-fighter flown by Lt. Clements Ostrowski of 1./NJG6, and came down at Andilly in France.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.06 and B140.12, at Cockerton on C119.01 and at Darlington on D40.023 and D40.035
