On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the name of 2405 Lance Corporal Joseph W. Southam serving with the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 26/04/1915.

Son of Charles and Elizabeth Southam, of Sheriff Hutton, York; husband of Mary Hannah Southam, of 64, Surtees St., Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.

In Bishop Auckland cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

In loving memory of
Lce. Cpl. Joseph W. Southam
who was killed in action April 26th 1915
aged 33 years
Also Evelyn Dorothy
The beloved daughter of the above
who died Feb. 11th 1921
aged 17 years

Joseph W. Southam is remembered at Bishop Auckland on B140.03 B140.12 and B140.27 and at South Church on S144.01 and S144.05
