In Erquinghem-Lys Churchyard Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 25797 Private Joseph Pratt, serving with the 13th Battalion, (Service) Durham Light Infantry who died 13/02/1916.

Joseph Pratt was born on the 19th December 1871 in Durham City. Son of John Pratt of Durham, a Labourer, and his wife Sophie daughter of Robert Slack.

He was educated at St. Margaret's School in Durham. Married at St Cuthbert's Church, Durham City on the 25th December 1890, Mary Ann (24 Crossgate, Durham), daughter of William Barron, they had six children, William born 5th October 1904, Robert born 9th January 1908, Joseph born 19th September 1910, Mary Ellen born 14th September 1892, Margaret born 25th June 1895 and Gladys born 24th September 1911.

He enlisted on the 17th April 1915, and arrived in France on the 20th December 1915. He was wounded in action on the 13th February 1916, and he died on his way to hospital.
