Allen, F., Pte., 1916
In Dernancourt Communal Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 6/3836 Private Francis Allen, serving with the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 08/11/1916.

Pauline Priano has submitted the following:-

Francis Allen born 1878 Darlington, son of Francis James Allen born Ireland 1850 and Mary Ann born Darlington. He was their second son and one of four children, 3 boys and 1 girl living at 2 Berry’s Yard (census 1891).

He enlisted in the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry in Bishop Auckland as Private 6/3836. He went to France October 1st 1915 and was killed November 8th 1916, buried Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France, IV B7.

His effects were sent to his wife Sarah Johnson of 3 Hutchinson Street, Middlesborough. There is no record of any children.

Francis Allen is remembered at Chilton on C107.01, C107.04 and C107.12
