Pauline Priano has submitted the following:-

Christopher Turner lived with his wife Margery L Turner nee Stubbs at 33, West Chilton Terrace, Ferryhill, County Durham. He enlisted in Sunderland and was assigned as Gunner 85322 Royal Field Artillery & Royal Horse Artillery, “X” Battery. The R. H. A used horse drawn guns of medium capacity as they were involved close to the front line and there was a risk of shelling the British soldiers in the trenches. Christopher records do not specify which Division he was attached to which makes it impossible to follow his service, other than to say that he entered the theatre of war October 25th 1915. In 1916 his unit was fighting on the Western Front involved in the First Battle of the Somme, July 1st - November 18th 1916. Gunner 85322 Christopher Turner Royal Horse Artillery was killed in action August 16th 1916. His sacrifice is recorded, pier 1A & 8A, on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme which commemorates the 72,195 officers and men from the United Kingdom and South Africa who died during the Battles of the Somme, between 1916 and 1916 and have no known grave.

His widow Margery would have received a pension and also his awards of the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, sent to her at the address of 33, West Chilton Terrace, Ferryhill, County Durham.

In God’s safe keeping. Rest In Peace.
