Unveiled 17th November 1921 by the Earl of Durham, President of the North Eastern Automobile Association.
Memorial Description
Endowment of a bed, recorded on two brass plaques on a wood pattress.
The top large plaque has a domed top. There is a single line border. At centre top is the badge of the North East Automobile Association. This is followed by a list of names in a single column using Roman capitals.
The lower plaque carries the dedication, also in Roman capitals.

Notes
1. During the war the association received from members two ambulance cars, for war service, and those cars were given with the stipulation that when the war was over they were to be sold and the proceeds given to some charitable organization. They had now been sold to the British Red Cross Society for £350. A further £150 had been added to it to endow the memorial cot.
2. The names include that of Jacob Garson from North Shields. See his

3. Another member who joined up with Mr. Garson was Stanley Dodds, who was also wounded but survived the war.

Morpeth Herald 27/08/1920 reports the endowment.
Newcastle Daily Journal 27/09/1920 contains a letter stating the proposal to endow a bed, publishing the names to go on the plaque and requesting more if they should be known.
Illustrated Chronicle 18/03/1921 reports that the memorial was ready to be placed in the Cripples Home, Gosforth; 18/11/1921 reports unveiling of the plaque and endowment of a cot.
