Stained Glass Window Pringle 1916 St. Cuthbert
St. Cuthbert's Church, Church Street/Cross Street.
On north wall of nave.
Unveiled 14th October 1917 by E.Jordan and dedicated by Rev. T.N. Dunscombe, Vicar of the Parish.
Stained glass window of two lights with tracery, showing Christ in the left window, and a knight leading a horse on the right. Below this, painted on a scroll at the bottom of the window above the dedication is "He endured as seeing / Him Who is invisible". The lettering is painted at the bottom using Roman capitals.
Jones and Willis, Birmingham. Put in the church by Neil Young and Robert Simpson.
1. An entry in Pte.Pringle’s mother’s diary reads:
“Memorial stained glass window / to the memory of Private Robert Henry Pringle. / This window was put in Amble Church / and was dedicated on the 14th day of / October 1917 by the Rev. T.N.Dunscombe / vicar of the Parish and unveiled by / A.Jordan Esq.
To the glory of God and in / loving memory of Private Robert Henry Pringle / who fell in action in France on the / 14th day of Nov.1916 aged 24 years.
Erected by his mother.
The service was as follows / Ordinary Prayers. Special Psalm 90 / Hymns 231, 264, 287. Anthum (sic) / was Hymn 630. O for a closer Walk with God / Sung by D.D.Kennedy, Esq., Bank Manager / and choir also. Sermon was taken / from Hebrews 11 Chapter Part of the 27 verse / He endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
The Window was got from Jones and Wills / Birmingham. Put in the Church by / Neil Young & Robert Simpson.”
2. The diary also reveals that Pte. Pringle was killed at the Butte de Warlencourt.
