Stained glass window of a two lights. The left hand light depicts Thomas Langley, Cardinal in 1437; above him are the arms of the ancient kingdom of Northumbria blow a cardinal’s hat. The right hand light depicts Mandell Creighton, Bishop 1843-1901. Above him are the arms of the Bishopric of Durham below bishop’s mitre. The dedication is carried inside a cartouche on each window.

Lieutenant, 9th Devon Regiment.

Right hand light
Exhibitioner
of Christ Church, Oxford
who fell on July 1st, 1916 in the
First Battle of the Somme.

1. William Noel Hodgson was a war poet. One of his poems - “Before Action” - is included in many anthologies of First World War Poetry.
