Morpeth Herald 13/04/1917 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR

TRENENT.- Killed in action on March 22nd (sic), aged 24 years, Private William Mavin Trenent, dearly beloved son of William and Elizabeth Trenent, 3 Burt Terrace, Morpeth.- Deeply mourned.

The Northumberland Record Office World War One Project has submitted the following:

William Mavin Trenent was born about 1893 and at the time of the 1901 census was 8 years old and living with his family at 4 St. George’s Square, Morpeth. The head of the household was his father, the 40 year-old William Trenent who worked as a Grocer’s Assistant and was married to 42 year-old Elizabeth. They had four children of whom William was the oldest. The other children were: Ernest, 6; Lily, 5 and Robert M, 1. William senior was born in Newcastle and Elizabeth was born in North Widdrington. All of the children were born in Morpeth.

By 1911 the family had moved to 11 Goose Hill, Morpeth and other changes had taken place: 18 year-old William Mavin Trenent was now, like his father, working as a Grocer’s Assistant. The younger children, Ernest Trenent, 16, Lily Trenent, 15, and Robert Mavin Trenent, 11, were all still at school. The 1911 census document has a number of discrepancies: First, Ernest is shown as being 14, whereas he is older than Lily and his correct age is 16 years old; second, the children’s mother, Elizabeth, is shown to have had four children and only three of whom survived. This is clearly wrong as all four children are registered in the census.

William Mavin Trenent was Private 33961 of the 8th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died on 14 March 1917 and is remembered with honour on the Thiepval Memorial. At the time the CWGC were putting together their records William and Elizabeth Trenent had moved to 8 Marine Street, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland.

William Mavin Trenent is remembered in Morpeth on M17.01 M17.02 M17.09 and M17.18
