Laurence Warren Hunt was the pilot of Wellington 1c Z1078 JN- which took off from Snaith at 1723 on a mission to Hamburg.

They encountered heavy snow showers while returning to base and crashed 2355 into high ground at West Hill, just to the NNW of the Cheviot. Sgt Hunt RNZAF and Sgt Maple died from their injuries.
