Hacking, J., Pte., 1915
On the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France, is the name of 5856 Private James Hacking, serving with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, who died 12/03/1915.

He was born in Salford and enlisted in Manchester.

Morpeth Herald 30/04/1915 carries a brief obituary:
Broomhill postman killed in action
Lance-Corporal [sic] James Hacking, of the 2nd Yorks Regiment (Reserve), who rejoined his unit at the beginning of the war, has been killed in action at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle.

Corporal [sic] Hacking was the local postman at Broomhill for several years, and was very much respected by all who knew him. He leaves a widow but no children.
