In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

R.G. Ritson
Telegraphist
C/JX 572380
H.M.S. "Stevenstone"
7th June 1944 age 19.

At the setting
of the sun
and in the morning
we will remember him.

Son of Francis and Lilian Blanche Ritson, of Whitley Bay.

LCG(L) 831 {Landing craft gun (Large) (MkIII) LCG(L) (500-627 tons}, was lost on the 11th July at 09.25 after striking a mine. She was part of the Trout Line when this happened. LCG(L) 831 was in 333 Support Flotilla, Unit Allocated to HMS Danae, Sword Area.

However. the CWGC state that he died on the 7th June 1944.
