WHITLEY BAY

Thompson, H.T., A/Smn., 1918
In Berlin South-Western Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside 2/200 Able Seaman Henry Taylor Thompson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 27/10/1918.

Colin Boyd tells that Henry was born on May 8th 1895 and was an apprentice fitter and turner when he enlisted on January 13th 1914. He was taken prisoner at Antwerp on October 9th 1914 and died from influenza on October 27th 1918 in Berlin Alexandrinenstrasse Hospital. Henry was buried in Berlin South-Western Cemetery, Stahnsdorf, Berlin. When he enlisted he was living with his mother, Rosalind Thompson, at 392, Park View, Whitley Bay.

He is remembered in Whitley Bay on W84.01, W84.02 and W84.30 page 23
