Calvert, T.S., A/Smn., 1915
On the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent, is the name of Tyneside Z/3401 Able Seaman Thomas Summers Calvert, serving with Hawke Battalion, Royal Navy Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 09/09/1915.

Morpeth Herald 08/10/1915 carries a brief obituary:
Mr and Mrs John Calvert, of 11 Chapel Place, Seaton Burn, have received intimation from the Admiralty that their son, Thomas Summers Calvert, A.B., of the Hawke Battalion, R.N.V.R., Tyneside, died on September 9th from wounds received in the Gallipoli Peninsular on September 7th.

Thomas was born on 12th September 1896 and was working as a miner living with his parents, John and Hannah, at 11, Chapel Place, Seaton Burn when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 16th January 1915.

He was posted to the Hawke Battalion on 1st May 1915 and served in Gallipoli until seriously wounded. Thomas died from the effects of a gun shot wound to the head aboard the hospital ship "Dunluce Castle" on 9th September 1915.

Thomas Summers Calvert is remembered at Seaton Burn on S88.01 and S88.05
