Wilkinson, J.W., A/Smn., 1916
In Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/456 Able Seaman John William Wilkinson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/1/1916.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on August 2nd 1890. He was working as a coal trimmer, living with his father, Robert, at 24, Northumberland Dock, Percy Main when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on October 17th 1914.

He joined the Benbow Battalion on February 22nd 1915 and then transferred to the Hood Battalion on June 12th 1915 and served until October 3rd 1915 when he was hospitalised with Jaundice.

After rejoining the Hood Battalion on November 3rd 1915 John was posted as missing later reported killed in action in France on November 13th 1916.

John's brother Robert Wilkinson also died.

John William Wilkinson is remembered in Percy Main on P22.01 and in Tynemouth on T36.14 page 29.
