In Hooge Crater Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 40879 Private Ernest Slinn, serving with the 8th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, who died 29/09/1917.

In Seghill (Holy Trinity) Churchyard) is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
John William
The beloved husband of
Margaret Ann Slinn
Who died through an accident
At Seaton Delaval May 28 1908
Aged 42 years.
Also of the above
Margaret Ann Slinn
Who died Dec. 11th ?1924
Aged ?59 years.
Also Pte. E. Slinn
Eldest son of the above
Who was killed in action
On September . . . . . . aged 25

(This last line is difficult to read)

Morpeth Herald 02/11/1917 carries a brief obituary:
Mrs Slinn, Seaton Delaval, has received word that her son, Private E. Slinn, K.O.Y.L.I., was killed in action on 29th September.

Ernest Slinn is remembered at Seaton Delaval on S7.03 S7.04 S7.07 and S7.10 at Seghill on S11.03 and at Tynemouth on T36.14
