Torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-59 (Jurst) in the North Sea E of Lowestoft in position 52.33N 02.25E while on a voyage from London to Middlesborough with a cargo of creosote. The Master, Captain Charles Fred Carlin, and crew of 15 lost.'

There is a memorial at the National Arboretum which gives a different date for the sinking of the Creofield. There seems to be some confusion about the date of the sinking.
