In Hexham (St Andrew’s) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

Flight Lieutenant
W.A.C. Patterson D.F.C.
Navigator
Royal Air Force
8th April 1945, age 23.

William Alan Clarke Patterson was born in the first quarter of 1922, the son of William and Margaret Armstrong Patterson (nee Little) of Hexham.

He served with 466 (RAAF) Squadron and was Navigator in a Halifax III, LW172 which left its base at 19.46 but crashed near the base (Kirkburn Grange) on its return from a bombing raid to Hamburg, Germany. All crew were killed.
