Colin Smith Kynoch was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne on the 8th September 1883, he was the second son of Robert Kynoch, of Stocksfield-on-Tyne and his wife, Jennie, daughter of Silvanus Smith.
Colin was educated at a Private School, in Newcastle-on-Tyne. He then became a Traveller in the Corn and Flour Trade.
Colin volunteered on the outbreak of war and was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant on the 6th October 1914, went to France, 19th April, 1915, and was killed in action near St. Julien, Ypres, 26th April, 1915. He was buried near Hill 60. He was unmarried.

Also in memory of Colin Smith Kynoch their second son who was killed in action near Ypres April 26th 1915 Sec. Lieut. 6th DLI aged 31 years. Also in loving memory of Alison Grace Kynoch who died July 13th 1917 whilst nursing at Colchester Military Hospital aged 23 years.
There does not appear to be a CWGC entry for Alison Kynoch, but she is remembered on a War Memorial at Stocksfield S56.03.
She is also mentioned in the Nursing Memorial appeal.
Colin Smith Kynoch is remembered in Jesmond on J1.06 and in Bywell B114.03 and in Stocksfield S56.03
