Osborne, A., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 23/196 Private Archibald Osborne, serving with the 23rd Battalion (Tyneside Scottish) Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Archibald Osborne was born in Dearham, Cumberland in the 2nd quarter of 1878, the son of William Osborne and Sarah Osborne (nee Wilson). His father was a coal miner, and the family lived in Collins Terrace, Ellenborough and Ewanrigg, Cockermouth, Cumberland.

By 1901 his parents, and the family of two sons and two daughters had moved to 36, Institute Row, West Sleekburn, Bedlington. Archibald was working as a coal miner, shifter.

In the 1st quarter of 1906 Archibald married Elizabeth Rumsby, in the district of Morpeth. In 1911 they were living at 8 Middle Row, Stakeford, Choppington, Bedlington, along with their two sons and a daughter. They also had Ellen Richardson living with the. She was an aunt by marriage.

Archibald had been enlisted into the army at Bedlington, Northumberland.

At the time of his death in 1916, Archibald and Elizabeth had four sons and two daughters. His address was given as 8, Soulsby Street, Blyth.

Archibald Osbourne is remembered in Bedlington on B15.06, in Choppington on C36.01, in Stakeford on S71.02 and in West Sleekburn on W34.01 and W34.02
