Redpath, G.H., A/Smn., 1918
On Vis-en-Artois Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/874 Petty Officer George Henry Redpath, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 25/08/1918.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on 13th June 1896. He was working as a miner living with his parents, George and Jessie at 32, East Terrace, Stakeford, Northumberland when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 2nd November 1914.

He joined the Hawke Battalion on 3rd April 1915 and served until 25th November 1915 when he was hospitalised with Bronchial Catarrh.

George rejoined the Hawke Battalion on 22nd December 1915 and was granted UK leave on 29th September 1916 and stayed on in the UK to take a Lewis Gunner course.

He rejoined the Hawke Battalion on 23rd January 1917 and was granted further UK leave on 6th February 1918. During his leave he was hospitalised in the UK suffering from Scabies.

George rejoined the Hawke Battalion for the last time on 11th May 1918 and was killed in action on 25th August 1918.

He was the brother of Frederick William Redpath
