Redpath, F.W., A/Smn., 1916
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1207 Able Seaman Frederick William Redpath, serving with the Hawke Battalion Royal Naval Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 20/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Frederick was born on 25th December 1894. He was working as a miner living with his parents, George and Jessie at 32, East Terrace, Stakeford, Northumberland, when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 9th November 1914. He joined "A" Company of the Hawke Battalion on 3rd April 1915 and was killed in action in Gallipoli on 20th June 1915.

L/Smn G. Manson of "C" Company stated that Frederick was "seen to have been hit through the head and subsequently to be apparently dead just outside the Turkish trench on the morning of 20th June." His pay book was picked up outside the Old Turkish trench on 4th November 1915.

Morpeth Herald 31/03/1916 carries a brief obituary:

"F.W. Redpath, A.B., R.N.D., was reported wounded and missing on June 19th, 1915, on Gallipoli Peninsular, Dardanelles. [A plea for any information was made] by his father, Mr G. Redpath, 32 East Terrace, Bomersund Colliery, Stakeford, Choppington."

Frederick was the brother of George Henry Redpath
