Turnbull, A., Pte., 1917
In Dozinghem Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Deal/3301(S) Private Andrew Turnbull, serving with the Royal Naval Division, who died 26/10/1917.

Gary Wright has provided the following:
Andrew Turnbull was a medical orderly with the Royal Naval Division. He served in Gallipoli and the battles of Beaumont Hamel and Beaucourt. He died on 26th October 1917 aged 33 after being blinded as he tried to save the life of an injured comrade. He is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium.

After his death his personal possessions were sent to his family, including his mirror, shaving kit, a button off his uniform, diaries, letters and medals. To mark the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Ypres, his surviving granddaughter, Mrs. Page, handed all these to the Royal Marines Museum in Southsea, Hampshire, where they are now on display.

The Journal 8/11/2007 also reports the donation of the heirlooms to the Museum.
