ASHINGTON

Burton, A., Pte., 1916

In Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle is the Commonwealth War Grave of 16219 Private A. Burton, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/07/1916.

In St. John's Churchyard, Seaton Hirst, is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Andrew, beloved husband of
Sarah Burton, of Hirst,
who died Sept. 12th 1933 aged 57 years
"Peace, Perfect Peace".
Also of Andrew, their son,
and beloved husband of
Hannah Burton,
who died from wounds received in action
at the Battle of the Somme,
July 7th 1916, aged 23 years.
He died for his country's cause.

Margaret Allison states that in 1911 his address was 3, Seventh Row, Ashington, and that he was 28 years old when he died.
