On the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the name of 1934 Private John Littlefair, serving with the 1st/7th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 29/04/1915.

Morpeth Herald 05/11/1915 carries a brief obituary:

"Private John Littlefair, son of Mrs Littlefair, Turk’s Head Hotel, Rothbury, and the late John Littlefair, formerly of the Grey Horse Inn, Camperdown, was killed in action in France, on April 29th. He was 19 years of age."

Richard Stevenson has submitted the following:
In the 1911 census he is listed as living with his parents and family in the Grey Horse pub (still there) in Burradon. He is also listed as one of the fallen who had attended Burradon School.

Judith Taylor states:

John was the son of John Littlefair and Margaret Ann Thew.

His father died Oct-Dec 1898 aged 35 years and his mother later married John’s uncle George William Littlefair in Oct-Dec 1899 in Newcastle.

His father John was the original landlord of the Grey Horse at Camperdown and his uncle then took on the Inn after marriage.

The probate details of John Littlefair show that he left to his wife Margaret £468 1s 8d.

Private Littlefair's effects were all left to his mother Margaret.

John Littlefair is remembered in Burradon on B73.01, in Rothbury on R24.01, R24.02, R24.12 and R24.16 in Jesmond on J1.04 and J1.19 and in the Battalion History
