Milburn, W.H., 2nd Lieut., 1916

On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of Second Lieutenant William Hudson Milburn, serving with the 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, who died 15/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 04/08/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Lieut. [sic] William Hudson Milburn, of the Suffolk Regiment, is officially reported to have been killed in action. He was the second son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Milburn of Duke Street, Alnwick, and was born at Haltwhistle. At the outbreak of the war he was science master at Framlington [sic] College, Suffolk. He was a B.A. of Cambridge, and a prizeman of Emmanuel College. He got his “Blue” for football, and was captain of the College XI.

He is remembered in Alnwick on A11.01, A11.09, A11.16, A11.22, A11.56 and A11.65
