William Paton was born in Townhill, Fifeshire and he enlisted in Perth.

He was the son of Mrs A. Paton of Glasgow and husband of Catherine Cookson (formerly Paton) of Roxbro’ Place Alnwick. He appears on Alnwick war memorial and on the roll of honour in St Michaels Church and the Northumberland Hall although his only connection with Alnwick appears to be his wife.
