In Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 22223 Lance Corporal George Hewson Philipson, serving with the 149th Company Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), who died 16/11/1916.

He was the son of George and Mary Philipson, of 177, Beaconsfield Street, Newcastle.

Morpeth Herald 29/09/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Mrs Phillipson, 16 Stanton Street, Gosforth, has received official information that her husband, Private George Hewson Phillipson, has been killed.

He is remembered at Gosforth on G9.21 and as Phillipson G.H. on G9.22
