In Wallsend Church Bank Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1428 Private Robert Hardy serving with the "C " Company 1st/6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 17/06/1915.

The headstone reads:

Robert Hardy
the beloved son of
Alexander & Jane Hardy
of Wallsend
who died from wounds received
in action in France, June 17th 1915
in his 20th year.
Also the above
Alexander Hardy
who died August 6th 1929
aged 76 years.
Also Mary Archbold
daughter of the above
who died April 7th 1927
aged 45 years.
Also the above
Jane Hardy
who died March 17th 1943
aged 88 years.

Morpeth Herald 02/07/1915 carries a brief obituary:

Information has been received by friends at Blyth that Signaller R. Hardy, 5th N.F., of Wallsend, who was stationed in the Croft Road Store Hall previous to going to the front, died on June 17th, of wounds received in action.

He is remembered at Wallsend on W7.03, W7.04, W7.09, W7.19 and W7.37
