In the Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 3/9589 Private William Crookston, serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) who died 02/10/1915.

William Crookston was born in Tyne Dock and enlisted at South Shields. He resided at 504 John Williamson Street.

He was wounded in France. He received a shrapnel wound in the shoulder during the advance on June 16th, this being the third time he has been wounded, and is now in hospital in France.
