Shaw, B., Pte., 1918
At Gommecourt British Cemetery No. 2 Hebuterne is the Commonwealth War Grave of G/67588 Private Bert Shaw serving with the 7th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) who died 21/08/1918.

Lorna Wilkinson has submitted the following:-

Bert Shaw [Bert(ie) the only son of Richard and Cicely Shaw of 17 Forcett Street, Cockerton was born in 1898 at Cowton. There were two younger daughters Annie and Torfreda. Richard Shaw was a picture framer. In 1911 Bertie was still at school but later became an Assistant at Bond’s Jewellers, Darlington.

Bertie enlisted at Darlington and joined the colours with Service Number TR/5/65288 86th T.R. Battalion. He was later transferred to the 7th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers.Bert Shaw was killed in action at Achiet-le-Grand near Baupaume. His mother added 'Till we meet' to his headstone.
