The Teesdale Mercury 24/11/1920 reports:-
The death took place on Thursday of Mr Thomas Bainbridge, for eight years keeper of the Wesleyan Chapel at Barnard Castle and formerly a rural postman. The deceased, who was for nine months attached to the Royal Army Medical Corps, during the was, was stationed at Blackpool and Woolwich. As a chapel steward a very high tribute is paid to his devoted services. As of Nehemiah, it can be said "He was a faithful man and feared God above many." The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, the Revs. H. Tregoning and J.T. Tunstall M.C. officiating. A large congregation listened to Mr Tregoning's touching address in the church.
