In Houghton Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Robert,
dearly beloved husband of
Isabella Meek
of Sixth Pit,
who died 1st Sept. 1929
aged 70 years.
also the above
Isabella Meek
who died 3rd Dec. 1943
aged 74 years.
Also of their sons
William, killed in action
3th Sept. 1918 aged 29 years.
Abraham killed in action
20th Oct. 1918 aged 25 years.

David Sloan states:

William was born before his mother married. Hence he is actually William Willis and he served under that name.

His brother Abraham also died in 1918.

He is remembered at Burnmoor on B154.06 at Great Lumley on G50.01 and G50.02 and in Woodstone Village on B154.06
