In Heworth (St. Mary) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of D/JX285954 Able Seaman David Thompson, serving with the Royal Navy who died 10/10/1945.

Heslop's Local Advertiser 19/10/1946 reports:

"Thompson, (Elliot Street, Felling). David, died through war service on Oct.10th, 1945, aged 23, after service on H.M.S. Lookout. Also George, lost Aegean Sea, on Nov. 13th. 1943, aged 32, H.M.S. Dulverton. "

Heslop's Local Advertiser 18/10/1947 reports:
"Thompson, Felling, David R.N., died through war service Oct.10, 1945, also George, R.N. lost at sea, Nov.13, 1943. "
