Baister, D., Pte., 1918
On Soissons memorial is the name of 36723 Private David Baister serving with the 1/5th Durham Light Infantry who died 27/05/1918.

Ron Shotton has submitted the following:-

David Baister was the son of Robert and Isabella Baister and was born 1887 at Toft Hill. In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother and was a Mason.

David enlisted firstly the Royal Engineers (169481) in February 1916 and was later transferred to the Durham Light Infantry in July 1916. At about this time he married Florence Margaret Banks and they had a son John David Baister in 1917. David went to France 01/04/1917 and was killed in action 27/05/1918.

Florence died in 1920.

David Baister is remembered at High Etherley on H127.01 and H127.02 and at Evenwood on E69.01 E69.02 and E69.03
