On Singapore Memorial is the name of 1494991 Sergeant Kenneth Towers serving with 159 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 28/08/1944.

Son of Norman and Elizabeth Towers, of Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.

In Bishop Auckland Cemetery, at the foot of the CWGC headstone for Reah, is a small stone which reads:

To the memory of his dearest pal
Sgt. Kenneth Towers
No. 1494991 B.A. R.A.F.
Missing Burma 28th August 1944

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Towers was killed when Consolidated Liberator VI EV867 of 159 Sqn was lost on a mine laying mission near Port Blair, in the Andaman Islands. The Liberator and the eight crew members were lost without trace.

Kenneth Towers is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.04 and B140.12
