Mann, A.C., Pte., 1917
On Basra Memorial is the name of S/7743 Private Arthur Crawford Mann serving with the Black Watch who died 14/03/1917.

H.J.M. has submitted the following:

A further pair of brothers, Arthur and Cyril Mann, died within weeks of each other. Arthur was slightly older, born in April 1890 to Emily and Harry Mann, who lived in Vickers Street, Bishop Auckland. He was one of eight and family life was associated with the railways, Harry earning his living as a coach maker.The family was also registered at the Passenger Station (1901) and the Railway Station (1911) - presumably The Station House. The 1911 household did not include Arthur and in later records Cyril was to state that he did not know where his brother was.

Before joining the Black Watch, Arthur served with the service number of 40049 in the R.A.M.C.He was aged 26 when he died.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.03, B140.07, B140.12 page 14 and B140.24
