Hutchinson, J.H., Pte., 1917
In Mendingham Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 235518 Private Joseph Holroyd Hutchinson, serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment who died 13/10/1917.

H.J.M. has submitted the following:

Joseph was baptised at Frosterley in April 1879 and at an early age was living at Craddock Street in Bishop Auckland with his parents John and Elizabeth. He was still registered at Craddock Street in 1901, earning his living as a draper’s assistant. In June 1908 he married Annie and they lived in Seymour Street and latterly Beaumont Street, all addresses located in the same area of Bishop Auckland. They had one child, Holroyd, born in 1909 who was eight when his father was lost. Worse was to follow as Joseph’s brother (Matthew Henry) was killed less than a year later.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.03, B140.05, B140.12 page 12 and B140.24
