In Spennymoor (Tudhoe) Cemetery is the Commonwealth war Grave with a private headstone of 95966 Private John William Keirl serving with the 13th Battalion Durham Light Infantey who died 02/11/1918.

Son of Henry and Judith Keirl; husband of Hilda Keirl, of 25, Tudhoe Colliery, Spennymoor. Born at Tudhoe.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
John William
beloved husband of
Hilda Keirl
who died 2nd November 1918 aged 25 years

Also his beloved wife
Hilda
who died 3rd Aug. 1977 aged 82 years

Thy will be done

His brother Charles Robert also died in WW1.
