Memorial Description

Statue of grieving woman in draped clothing set on square pedestal, total height approx. 16 feet. Below the statue is a decoration of leaves. The names are carried in polished raised panels each 3 feet 6 inches high with dome at centre top on all four faces of the pedestal. In each top corner is a rose design. Lettering is incised and blackened, using Old English for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.
Around the base are eight granite pillars and chains and wreath holder at the front.

White Aberdeen granite statue; grey Aberdeen granite pedestal.

Notes

1. The Tudhoe Miners’ Lodge raised over £3,000 for war purposes.

2. All members who returned were given a gold medal.

3. The statue was placed next to the Tudhoe Colliery Disaster memorial.

4. The memorial would prove to be “a credit to the firm and a landmark to the county”.
