In Cojeul British Cemetery, St. Martin-sur-Cojeul is the Commonwealth War Grave of 15/45677 Private John William Hall serving with 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 27/04/1917.

John William Hall was born 1896 in Fulwell, Sunderland, the youngest son and one of seven children, three boys and four girls born to Luke Hall of Sunderland (1862) and Margaret Jane of Fulwell (1862 - 1912). In 1901 the family were living at 53 Florence Terrace, Southwick on Wear, Luke was working as a plater in the shipyards. Margaret Jane passed away in 1912 and prior to the Great War John William worked at Windlestone Colliery, Ferryhill.

John William Hall enlisted in Bishop Auckland as Private 45677, 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, assigned to the 64th Brigade, 21st Division. He was killed in action April 27th 1917 during what is known as the Battles of Arras, close to the Hindenburg front line. Private 15/45677 John William Hall is interred at Cojeul British Cemetery, St. Martin-sur-Cojeul, France, 8 kilometres SSE of Arras, grave A65. He was 31 years old and unmarried.
