Kate Smith has submitted the following:

John Albert Darnton was my husband's great uncle. He was born in Bramley, West Yorkshire in July 1888. He was killed in France on 23rd March 1918, though his body was lost. We have his medals and the "Death Penny" memorial the family were sent.

His sister - Martha Elizabeth (born 22nd June 1899) - was married in June 1921 to Arthur Ernest Heaviside (born July 1885) who served in the DLI.

These were my husband's grandparents and he has Arthur's service medals as well.

Arthur's brother - John Harold Heaviside - is also remembered on the Consett memorial. Also serving with the D.L.I. he was killed on 20th September 1915.

John Albert Darnton is remembered in Consett on C101.01
