Linen chest, elaborately decorated with trees and flowers in bronze on the corners. There is a plaque 4 inches high x 7 inches (102mm x 178mm) wide on the top bearing the dedication.

Notes
1. If the plaque is 7 inches long, the chest is calculated to be about 18 inches high x 3 feet 6 inches long x 18 inches deep.
2. Michael Pether tells us that Gladys Tate was evacuated from Singapore just before it surrendered to the Japanese on the ‘SS Kuala’ which was sunk. She made it to shore on an uninhabited Pom Pong island, to be picked up a few days later by the ‘SS Tandjong Pinang’ and lost her life when that ship was sunk.
Mr. Pether sent a comprehensive paper that told the story of this vessel which is attached below.
