Notes

1. “Church Welcome Home
On Thursday October 30th a full church gathered to welcome home our friends who have been serving in the Forces, and who have now returned to their homes. It was fitting that Mr G.W. Green, who has kept in close contact with all those serving by writing hundreds of letters during the war years, should preside over the meeting. Rev. R.V. Horn, on behalf of the church, welcomed all our Service friends and expressed our joy in having them with us again. Mr. Silas Kent and Mr. R.B. Green replied. A baptismal font was presented to the church by Mr. Stan Collins on behalf of the Service men and women. Afterwards Rev. Wm. Jacques paid tribute to five of our young men, John G. Henderson, Maurice Floyd, Robert H. Green, Jack Ord, and Stephen Smiles, who made the supreme sacrifice. As a memorial to their fallen comrades, those who have returned presented a Pulpit Bible and Hymn Book to the church, the presentation being made by Mr. G.E.C. Watson. Mr G.W. Green presented a copy of “Welcome Home”, by Dr. Leslie F. Church, to over thirty of our ex-Service friends. Later in the evening the boys took over, and gave an enjoyable programme of choruses and songs. Refreshments were afterwards served.” The Torch.
